Frida is a work in progress, a semi-documentary project that hovers between reality and imagination. This series was born a few years ago when an apparently simple health issue changed my friend’s life forever. Today she is unable to live like normal people as she can only walk, stand or sit down for limited periods of time; she has to spend most of her time lying down. Slowly, over the years, she has learned to live with pain. As she physically reminds me of Frida Kahlo, I realized there was a bizarre resemblance in their lives, and I started to imagine her as a contemporary Frida. I have been photographing her in different moments of her life, blending fact and fiction just like Frida Kahlo herself has done in her life and work.
